AI Information & Usage Policy
Version 2026-08-10-v3
This page explains how Alera uses artificial intelligence, what data may be processed, and the limits of AI-generated educational outputs. Alera is educational software—not a medical device and not a substitute for clinical care.
What AI does in Alera
Alera uses AI and algorithmic models to generate educational estimates, explanations, and conversational help from data you choose to provide.
- Living Forecast and organ-system trajectories (educational estimates with uncertainty)
- Insights and health-story style narratives grounded in your inputs when available
- Ask Alera chat and optional text-to-speech for replies
- Lab extraction / normalization assistance where enabled
- Simulator and related educational exploration tools on eligible plans
Not medical advice or a medical device
AI outputs are educational estimates only. They are not diagnoses, prognoses, treatment recommendations, or clinical decision support. Always discuss health decisions with a qualified clinician.
What data AI may use
Models may use account and health-related inputs you supply (for example labs, wearables, journal text) plus technical context needed to run the feature. Payment card numbers are not sent to AI providers.
- On-platform educational models (inference service) process feature vectors derived from your data when you run forecast/trajectory/graph tools
- Optional OpenAI-powered chat may send conversation text to OpenAI only when enabled by configuration and, for PHI context, when you have granted AI/PHI consent
- You can export or delete account data from Settings; see the Privacy Policy for details
Third-party AI providers
When OpenAI (or similar) is configured, requests are sent over encrypted connections to that provider under their terms and Alera’s privacy commitments. Do not enter information in chat that you are not comfortable sharing with those processors.
Accuracy, uncertainty, and citations
Educational outputs include uncertainty framing and, where available, research citations. Models can be wrong, incomplete, or outdated. Missing labs or wearables yield empty or low-confidence states rather than invented clinical scores.
Acceptable use
When using Alera AI features you agree not to:
- Use outputs as emergency care, diagnosis, or to replace professional medical judgment
- Attempt to extract other users’ data, bypass plan limits, or probe the system for vulnerabilities outside coordinated disclosure
- Upload unlawful content, malware, or data you do not have rights to process
- Misrepresent AI output as clinician-authored advice
Your controls
Plan entitlements gate which AI tools you can use. Soft-launch Pro trial unlocks Pro tools without a card when you select Pro. Free accounts keep journal and basic workspace tools only.
- Settings → Privacy Center for collection, AI transparency, export, and deletion
- Revoke AI/PHI consent where the product offers consent controls
- Contact privacy@aleralabs.io for privacy or AI-policy questions
Security research
Responsible disclosure guidance is published at /.well-known/security.txt. Prefer contacting privacy@aleralabs.io rather than probing production for vulnerabilities.
